Discord Integration

Cocoon Shell can connect to Discord to share what you’re playing and show you what your friends are up to — just like how PC games show “Now Playing” on your profile.

Setting It Up

  1. Make sure the Discord app is installed and you’re logged in on the same device.
  2. In Cocoon, go to Settings → Integrations → Discord Rich Presence.
  3. Toggle it on.

That’s it! Cocoon handles the connection automatically.

Now Playing

Whenever you launch a game through Cocoon, your Discord status updates to show:

Discord profile showing "Playing Pokemon Heart Gold" with game artwork and elapsed time

  • 🎮 The game you’re playing
  • 📱 Which platform it’s for (e.g., SNES, PlayStation)
  • ⏱️ How long you’ve been playing
  • 🖼️ Game artwork (if available)

Your friends will see this in your Discord profile, just like when someone’s playing a game on PC. When you close the emulator and come back to Cocoon, your status clears automatically.

Seeing What Friends Are Playing

The left pill on Cocoon’s status bar shows friends who are also using Cocoon:

  1. Press L (left bumper) to expand the friends panel.
  2. You’ll see each friend who’s currently playing something, including:

Expanded friends panel showing online friends and what they're playing

  • Their profile picture and username
  • What game they’re playing
  • Which platform
  • Game artwork (Cocoon even tries to find and show the box art!)

Friend Notifications

Discord notification in Cocoon

When a friend starts playing a new game, a little notification slides in at the top of your screen showing what they jumped into. It goes away on its own after a few seconds.

Discord Widgets

You can also place Discord-related widgets on your grid:

  • Discord Status — Shows your current activity
  • Discord Friends — Shows your online friends

Check out Widgets for how to add them.

Privacy

A few things worth knowing:

  • Your “Now Playing” status only appears while you’re in a game. When you exit back to Cocoon, your normal Discord status returns.
  • Cocoon only reads friend activity info — it doesn’t read or send messages.
  • Friend monitoring pauses when Cocoon isn’t on screen.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to try
